New York Receives $27.8m Grant for Cleanup Employment

Governor Cuomo has announced that New York State has received $27.8 million dollars in federal Disaster National Emergency Grant funds.

The grant permits the hiring of workers to help clean up and recover New York communities such as Staten Island and the Rockaways while putting unemployed New Yorkers back to work.

Anyone who was unemployed as a result of Hurricane Sandy, or who is unemployed and not in receipt of unemployment benefits or other types of income is eligible for the program. New Yorkers interested in working through this program and helping damaged communities can call the NYS Department of Labor at (888) 469-7365, or contact their local FEMA Disaster Recovery Center, Workforce1 Career Center or the New York City Employment and Training Coalition.
